چکیده
This study utilizes a fuzzy approach to explore the productivity of Persian derivational prefixes based on Baayen’s three measures of productivity, namely realized, potential and expanding productivity for Persian prefixes extracted from Bijankhan’s Persian corpus. To this end, 2.6 million words in the corpus were thoroughly examined. The results were then categorized using the fuzzy set theory. Moreover, to validate the authenticity of the concept of hapax legomena, two measures, i.e., potential and expanding productivity measures were recalculated considering the total number of once, twice and three times occurred words coined by each prefix in the corpus. The results are almost the same in both methods suggesting that prefixes por-, bi-, and na- were and are the most productive prefixes in Persian. Besides, the reliable outcomes of applying fuzzy set theory to the productivity phenomena indicates the availability of this theory for dealing with other vague linguistic concepts for which there are discrepancies among linguists.
