| Translation competence develops through systematic training and practice in formal educational contexts. However, many translation learners still exhibit deficiencies such as lack of coherence, semantic distortion, and failure to convey the intended meaning of the source text. Similar challenges have been observed among Iranian English translation students translating from Persian into English. To address this issue, the present study investigates translation errors from a cultural perspective, focusing on culture-specific translation strategies. The study employed a qualitative research design supported by descriptive statistical analysis, and 70 senior English translation students were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through translation tasks and semi-structured interviews. Results revealed that cultural translation errors constituted a notable proportion of the overall errors, highlighting limitations in students’ strategic competence when applying translation techniques to culture-specific items. In addition, insufficient exposure to advanced translation theories and limited practical training were identified as significant contributors to these challenges. The findings emphasize the need to integrate cultural competence more systematically into translation pedagogy and contribute to a more objective evaluation of translation strategies and instructional practices in Iranian universities by emphasizing linguistic, cultural, and strategic dimensions of translation. | ||
