| The objective of the present study was to predict marital commitment based on early maladaptive schemas, mediated by sexual assertiveness and sexual self-efficacy in employed women. In terms of purpose, this was an applied study, and in terms of its nature, it was a descriptive-correlational research. The statistical population consisted of all employed women in Markazi Province in 2025, from which 270 individuals were selected using convenience sampling. The research instruments included the Marital Commitment Questionnaire (Adams & Jones, 1997); the Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form (Young, 1998); the Hurlbert Index of Sexual Assertiveness (Apt & Hurlbert, 1992); and the Sexual Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (Vaziri & Lotfi Kashani, 1992). Data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling. In the present study, the schema domains of disconnection and rejection (β=−0.358, P=0.001), impaired autonomy and performance (β=−0.362, P=0.001), other-directedness (β=−0.375, P=0.001), and overvigilance and inhibition (β=−0.341, P=0.001) indirectly, negatively, and significantly predicted marital commitment. The schema domain of impaired limits (β=0.280, P=0.001) indirectly, positively, and significantly predicted marital commitment. The results indicated that marital commitment is predicted by early maladaptive schemas through the mediation of sexual assertiveness and sexual self-efficacy in employed women. The findings emphasize the necessity of designing interventions based on schema restructuring and psycho-sexual empowerment programs (enhancing assertiveness and self-efficacy) for employed women to prevent emotional instability. Family counselors can focus on these mediating components to mitigate the destructive effects of pathological cognitive patterns on marital commitment and strengthen relationship stability in the face of occupational challenges. | ||
