چکیده
The present research paper will talk about the preliminary identification of masons’ marks found in some of the historical architectures of the Panchmahal district, Gujarat. Unlike other sub-branches of historical and archaeological studies, understanding masons’ marks are one of the less explored zones in Indian academia. Owning to this scarcity, on an introductory level, it can be stated that based on the context, substances ranging from short inscriptions to any form of alphanumeric values inscribed on the monuments can be considered Masons Marks. In this paper, the author will talk about similar findings observed over some of the isolated historical buildings of the above-mentioned district. And will try to understand why studying masons’ marks can be regarded as an integral part of architectural studies. This article will brief about the study area and adapted methodologies followed by detailed accounts of the monuments along with the findings. As Index, the authors gave a detailed account of the findings in tabular format.
