| چکیده | ||
| This study reassesses Islamic mosque patronage in Dāghistān by examining the Kūrāj Mosque in the Agul region. During the Islamic era, the mosque underwent four major reconstruction phases, including documented renovations in 1677, 1795, and 1829; the last of these dates appears in the mosque’s final inscription. Drawing on newly identified material evidence and textual inscriptions concerning the mosque’s architecture and repairs, as well as records of social subsidies and village contributions to Islamic charities, the study reconstructs a plan of Kūrāj during the Islamic period. It examines the dates of the mosque’s renovations and identifies the artists and donors involved in its construction and restoration. Moreover, it analyses the architecture, inscriptions, and historical context of the Kūrāj Mosque together. The study also offers, for the first time, translations of the Arabic inscriptions, based on unpublished patterns documented in a survey the author conducted. As approximately seventy other mosques in Dāghistān remain to be examined, this research provides a valuable foundation for further study.The study concludes that the Kūrāj Mosque is significant for its architectural features, monumental character, historical records, and religious inscriptions. It is also one of the few mosques in Dāghistān built with the support of Kūrāj’s Muslim population in the Agul region, whose donations extended to neighbouring villages. | ||
